New York

Jer and I took a wonderful trip to New York this past weekend. Thank you Grandma Carol and Grandpa Dick for watching the girls and allowing us to have some adult time. It was so much fun! This is the view from our hotel room- 25 stories up. We road the subway everywhere, and yes, got lost a couple of times. New York is actually a very safe town and I never felt in danger.
We visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art- AMAZING! We only planned for half a day, but I could easily do a couple of days in there. We spent an hour in the Egyptian wing, but I finally said we had to hurry if we wanted to see anything else.
I was most impressed with all the modern painting. They had numerous Monet paintings that took my breath away.
Outside the Met, they had musicians/dancers performing. Everywhere were food trucks. I had a delicious New York style hot dog.

We walked Central Park. Lilies were everywhere; the trees were gorgeous with colors.
Time Square was enormous and very flashy. I hated it at first- I couldn't concentrate- we even had a hard time finding the subway sign there- not to mention people were everywhere! But after a couple of days, I grew to love it. So much fun and such life.
Cindy getting ready in the hotel room to attend the Broadway show Chicago. Great show- I definitely recommend it.
We learned after the second day (from talking to some New Yorkers while waiting in line to buy Broadway tickets) that the best way to travel is on a tour bus. It's great because you actually get to see the buildings better along with a brief tour and it saves your feet. Lots of walking in this city!
No one cooks in New York when they live close to Hells Kitchen. It's actually cheaper to buy your meal, then buy groceries and take them home to cook.
Empire State Building or called the Empty State Building when they first built it because only 30% of the offices where in use. Tourists actually help keep it going. It's $25 to ride to the top. We didn't go.
Madison Square Garden, which is actually round
New York's post office- the only one that never closes and our wonderful tour guide
Cabs everywhere! Only a fifth of all New Yorkers own a car- I can see why. It's insane driving there- understatement.
This building is the largest residence in New York. One unit costs $40,000 a month.
Our view as we took a boat around Staten Island, seeing the Manhattan skyline.
The tall building is one of the new World Trade Center's four buildings (still under process.)
 Statue of Liberty
 Brooklyn Bridge
Bowling Green- First park ever in the U.S.
Jer touches the bull's horns for good financial luck.

Trinity Church, the steeple (5 stories tall) was once the tallest building in New York. It is the oldest catholic church there.

One of the buildings next to the Trade Center, that was destroyed. It was next to one of the new Trade Center buildings.
The 9/11 Memorial with two giant water fountains where the buildings use to be.

Jer having fun on the steps of City Hall.
We had such a good time enjoying ourselves. We ate and drank a ton of "good" things. My favorite was the chocolate gelato in Little Italy.

Here are apartments in Stuyesant town, the "poorer" district, one unit goes for $4000 a month. We will not be living in New York anytime soon.
The Chrysler building, as seen from the Waldorf Hotel as we walked in to have a drink in their bar. Yes, I ordered a Manhattan. And enjoyed it very much. What a great trip!
